The Importance of Prevention

Prevent diseases for your pet with routine examiniations
 

Scheduling your pet’s annual physical exam when he/she seems to be feeling fine may seem like a waste of your time and money, especially cat check upduring the hard economic trials of today.  You may think to yourself  “I’ll just take the dog to PETCO® for vaccines” …  but the staff administering the vaccines doesn’t even really know if the pet is healthy enough to receive them.  The AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) has recommended that we decrease the frequency in which vaccines are given, so your pet may not even be due for any vaccinations for another three years, but there could be something brewing within.  With preventative medicine we can identify potential problems and offer you (client and patient) a better array of treatment options that can be lest costly, and life saving.  That is why the old adage always applies …

“Prevention is always better than the cure”

In vet school, prospective doctors are taught not only to read lab print outs, and look under a microscope, or dog physical examlearn the theory behind disease processes, but also to use the tools that they have been carrying around their whole lives. A doctor’s eyes, ears, and hands can sometimes provide the most incite.  A tumor in the abdomen of your 9 year old cat will not get noticed at a vaccine clinic … dental disease … a heart condition, and a thyroid condition may also go completely undiagnosed if you do not provide your pet with a medical exam.   We are not opposed to vaccine clinics, and they are excellent if you want to save a little money.  But every pet needs a physical exam!

dog check up costRegular/annual exams are recommended for ages 1-7.   Bi-annual check-ups for our older guys and dolls with corresponding lab work are strongly recommended.  This allows our trained professionals to pick up on most potential problems allowing you to take steps in either preventing disease or beginning early treatment.
